Mark Perlman is represented by R.B. Stevenson Gallery.
There is always an anticipated excitement when one adds new vocabulary to one's already established dialogue.
The introduction of the unexpected usually leads to discoveries that make the act of painting full of curious possibilities.
The newest work presented is a continuation of my recent pursuit of making several paintings within a painting.
I suppose parallels can be drawn to both patterned quilts and cave paintings. By giving myself permission to
invent new forms and color relationships, I believe I have created a renewed energy and passion for my work.
The combination of the grids and geometric forms alongside of the more intuitive gestures of organic mark
making has enabled me to create innumerable combinations. In addition, the encaustic process of layering
surfaces has permitted me to place contrasting images together. I anticipate a continued search for new and
personal symbols in the years ahead.
